Love Bites—Chapter 11
I snapped awake to see Joe lying right next to me. Just watching me.
Joe: Good morning, sleepy head. (He smiled and I was head over heels)
Demi: Hey (I rubbed my eyes and looked at his clothes) You went home?
Joe: Yeah, I had to change. You should get ready. (He stood up)
Demi: Do your kind sleep? (I stood up on the other side of the bed)
Joe: Well . . . no, we dont.
Demi: Well, you hop out of the window and Ill meet you back up front. (I laughed)
Joe: (Smiling) Okay, see you soon.
I heard David coming up the stairs and knocking at my door.
Demi: Yes? (I said as I rummaged through my drawers for some clothes)
David: Can I come in?
Demi: Sure.
David: Hey kiddo, you know the Meyers? (He scratched his head)
Demi: Julia and Robert? What about them? (I turned to him)
David: Their mother . . . just died. (He looked down)
Demi: W-why? How? (I stopped looking through my clothes)
David: I just got the call and I dont know how to explain it. (He sat on my bed)
Demi: (Sitting next to him)
David: They said it was some sort of animal attack that killed her. That or a very demented person murdered her. But . . . we dont know.
Demi: (I instantly thought of the Jonas family and shook the thought away) Wait, animal attack? We dont have really vicious animals or anything . . .
David: I dont know Dems, but dont let your head get too busy about it. (He left the room then poked his head back in) And youre friend Joe is here?
Demi: Oh, okay. (I went back to the drawers)
David: Since when . . . ? (He stopped) Have fun. (He sighed and left)
I found a suitable outfit. A simple white v-neck and some black skinnies. Perfect for any occasion . . . whatever occasion this was.
I took a seat in his car and just looked at him. He smiled and I stared so deep into his eyes that I felt like I could fall into them. Fall into his beautiful, irresistible—
Joe: Im gonna take you out to dinner. (He smiled)
Demi: Id like that. (I smiled)
He pulled into a driveway . . . why?
Demi: I thought . . . ?
Joe: I never said where. (He smiled) I want you to meet my mother and father. At least thats what I call them. (He laughed. I guess its a vampire joke because I didnt get it.)
We walked side by side, heading closer to the door. My heart was pounding loudly. I expected dark, black walls with coffins lined up against the sides. I wasnt ready. What would they say? What would they do? What wouldnt they do?
Joe stopped me and grabbed my hand, holding it in his.
Joe: Dont be so scared, I can hear your heart racing. (He smiled)
Demi: Im sorry. Im just a little nervous. (I tried to smile)
Joe: Just a little?
He leaned down slowly, staring into my eyes each second. Then he pressed his lips to mine and we kissed. Both hands in mine, I shivered and smiled through the kiss. He moved away.
Joe: Did that help? (He smiled)
Demi: (Giggling) Maybe . . .
He opened the door and I saw the house.
The walls were a light gray, the entrance room almost completely empty besides a large grand piano to the left and a staircase to the far right.
Demi: Nice place.
Joe: Its alright. (He smiled)
We walked to past the staircase and the piano into a large kitchen.
Denise: Demi. (She said and smiled)
Kevin Sr.: Welcome.
