www.EmploymentCrossing.com Thirty laid-off miners have been offered jobs with the Stillwater Mining Company in Montana. The workers were laid off from New York's St. Lawrence Zinc mine in August. Sixty laid-off miners vied for 30 positions with Stillwater. The miners will have to relocate over 2,000 miles from their homes. One hundred workers were fired from the St. Lawrence operation. Management cited increased operating costs and falling metal prices. Stillwater extracts, refines and markets platinum and palladium, a metal used in catalytic converters. They are the United States' primary palladium producer. The Company conducts mining operations at the Stillwater Mine near Nye, Montana, and the East Boulder Mine South of McLeod, Montana
