@jgm1234567 The water pump is usually replaced along with the timing belt. The whole timing belt thing was a big issue with these cars because Audio claimed it should be changed at 100K but after a few years people's started failing at 60K so they had to update their recommend change interval. It would make me extremely nervous that it snapped while he was driving it, but since he claims he got it fixed then you should be ok. You should definitely have a garage look it over ( at your cost ).

@cbcraig13 WOW! 500 HP with a stage 3! That sounds amazing! And yeah, Its the 225 HP. This car has 121k miles, and he says he replaced the timing belt a couple months ago, and that he has the paperwork on it. He said he had to replace all the valves along with it because it snapped while going down the road. So if he proves that was replaced, then I'd feel a little better. You mentioned there are other parts that should be replaced as well?? Were you thinking about the water pump?

@cbcraig13 Also, if you do have a turbo problem, all the forum members suggest going with a stage 1 aftermarket turbo. It'll cost less than an Audi branded one but should be slightly bigger and give a little more power in the higher RPMs, without needed to change the internals of your engine like a stage 2 or higher would need. There are quite a few guys how have stage 3 500HP TT! BTW, you're looking at a 225 right? Only the 225 has the dual exhaust on the back.

@jgm1234567 Depends on the mileage. Mine had 125,000 on it when I bought it and I sold it 10,000 miles later. The only thing wrong with it during that time was the oil leak I mentioned. If it has high mileage then you just gotta make sure certain repairs were done. The biggest one being the timing belt. The TT is based on the VW Golf and when you take a closer look at the parts you'll see "VW" stamped on most of them. So parts should be easy to come by.

@cbcraig13 And he said he would look to see what he can bring it down to, and that he figured he wouldnt be able to get 8500 out of it....So I'm thinkin' that if he gets rid of it for 7 or less, I'd probably do it. If he takes 6500, I will certainly buy it. The car seems to run strong, and I really cant find anything wrong with it at all...but something in the back of my mind makes me doubt it's reliability very much. But at 6500 dol, its worth the risk, dont ya think?

@cbcraig13 Man, you are so helpful. I haven't been able to get an invested response from anyone. This helps a lot. He's selling the car for 8500 dol. But today, I told him I can't justify investing 8500 dol in a car with such horrible reviews, and because of the reviews, I wont be able to re-sell it so easy. I then told him that the maximum I could consider paying for a car with that kind of risk is 7k (I would actually probably get it for what he's asking...maybe), [to be continued...]

@jgm1234567 Also, I did have an oil leak, which is more likely to happen on turbo charged cars. It cost me $375 for my indy garage to fix it @ $90/hr. I do miss it though. Some say it's a "girl car" but I completely disagree. This thing has muscle and has no problem blasting through snow. The roadster does have a lot more wind noise due to it being a cloth top and the visibility is poor due to the small size of the car, but hey I'm 6'6" so most people won't share my complaints.

@jgm1234567 @jgm1234567 That's a good question. I was on tt-forum.co.uk almost everyday checking stuff out. I must admit that most of the time it was people posting about problems, however, that's almost always the case since no one posts "Hey I just wanted to let everyone know I still don't have a problem!". The main thing you're looking at on this car is a possible turbo failure or leak ( leak being the less expensive ). However, a new turbo is about $800, so not the end of the world

@cbcraig13 I mean, Are there ANY 2001 Audi quattro tt roadsters that run like a dream, and last for a long time? Or are they all a bunch of money pits?

@cbcraig13 I had to look that up to see what car you were talking about. That car looks super nice!

So, let me ask you something: I've found myself communicating with someone selling a 2001 quattro tt roadster. Its black with black leather, 121k miles, and the hydraulic pumps for the top dont work (can still take ti down manually), it and its had a timing belt replaced 2 months agao, as well as a couple other things...What do you think the chances are of this car becoming a money pit for me?
