In signing in Franken, Pawlenty risks losing the primaries. In not signing, his approval ratings drop even lower and he risks losing the general election by a landslide. Signing Franken and losing a primary allows him to run independent where his chances are best. But the longer he waits, the lower his ratings drop.

Good commercial. Pawlenty knows that if he certifies Franken's win he'll be dead in a GOP primary in 2012, as his opponents won't let up about him giving the Democrats 60 seats in the Senate, especially now that Arlen Specter switched parties. Funny thing is, if he would have signed the damn thing before Specter switched he could have at least mitigated some damages. This, combined with his horrific, and falling, approval ratings in MN spell certain doom for his national ambition...
