Banished

This is a film clip of the documentary film Banished by Marco Williams. Banished recounts the story of three U.S. towns in which the white inhabitants incited race riots in the early 20th century, forcing their entire African American populations to leave.

Working Films has partnered with the producers of Banished to create a two-year post-broadcast campaign that will engage audience members in exploring why these histories were hidden for so long, what can be done today, and how this painful history can be addressed.

This guys in Arkansas, and he probably never even heard of the Quapaw tribe. We owned Arkansas, the name arkansas and O'gah'pahs, and the frenchified A'Qua'paws are all the same word. Ever seen Arkansas spelled ArkanSAW? hOW IS it pronounced? Not ar-Kans-ass. Right? I want to go back to my caves in Arkansas where they hid, but I don't know where they are.

Hello tho, NOT THE LARGEST RACIAL CLEANSING IN AMERICA THO. Remember who the whites stole the land from in the first damn place. I 'm Native American. My Quapaw ancestors met the white man, and 20 years later 80% of the tribe was dead in order for whites to steal the Mississippi River which we controlled the southern half. Later my family hid in ArKansas caves from US soldiers who forced the tribe on to OK. They starved them on the way, and shot at whites who tried to throw food to them.

The Pierce city incident affected all the towns around it, Monett and Aurora, the blacks left "overnight" as I was told. I was in high school in the most rascist Monett in the 1970's and the N word was all over the place, and N jokes were told all the time. I had my revenge I have a triracial child. The melting pot wins!

I think the saddest thing about these events is the land (which is one a to attain wealth) was taken. People had to leave their property only to have some else take it and receive the wealth from the land. Not only that, their beneficiaries also thrive off of that wealth. I think this type of documentary, along with other historical documentaries should be played on BET. Realistically speaking, I don't think VIACOM would let that happen.
