  • @maxreger100 I know what you mean, it's exactly how i felt hearing the rachmaninov recording of his 2nd piano concerto. I think for some reason the composers tend to play their pieces too fast in genneral. I think that in the end music is for them to make, but musicians to acknowledge ;)

  • @donaldcallen

Yes, but what is really striking here is Prokofiev's tempo. It's marked "Poco Allegro", but this is not a Brahms Poco Allegro! It's "a little fast" alright ! Yet, this must be as he wanted it.

I'm as shocked as anyone to hear this. I've always played it much slower and schmaltzier.......

  • really the best version for me personally- well played by everybody and I particulary like the fast tempo which makes the piece ful of life.

  • Is this a newly discovered recording? I never knew of its existence. The fact that Prokofiev is playing the piano makes it eminently worthwhile to hear. Moreover, the performances from all musicians is excellent. Bravo! The tempos are among the fastest, perhaps THE fastest, ever in this work. Still, this unsentimental approach works nicely.
