Whole 4.2 million bp genome of Bacillus subtilis is scanned clockwise from the replication origin. Melody is drawn from the profile of genomic GC-content calculated for each 10 kb segment; AT-rich regions are high-pitched and played by soprano while GC-rich regions are low-pitched and played by bass. Each gene is represented by one of six percussion sounds according to a functional classification.
