  • @MIRCWOOD Diamrphine, [heroin], is non-toxic. That does NOT mean it is harmless. Everyone knows heroin causes strong psychological and physical addiction. BUT, medically the only consequence of heroin addiction is constipation. Heroin addicts are not thin because H is wasting them away, but because they spend all their money on dope. Heroin does not make people into criminals -the price of illegal supplies & the irregularity of availability means most addicts cannot work, and commit crime,

  • I have been a heroin addict for 12 years. I can only just afford to keep my girlfriend and myself in the heroin we need having always had well paying jobs. My life would be so much easier if heroin was legalised or at least if this medical programme came to the UK. When will the authorities realise that it is prohibition which is the problem. I'm lucky that I don't have to resort to crime like some friends I know in order to supply my habit. Crime would fall immensely if drugs were legalised.

  • Well, I'd agree with your premise but life experience tells me needing that fix every day, even 3+ fixes a day, is going to have an detrimental effect one's life regardless of whether or not they have the money to sustain the habit.

It is a lifestyle choice though, for those with the money. But you won't get laid as much [as you typically would] and imo it's a shitty life to live. Most overdoses are due to wide ranges of unknown purirty and adulterants, not the drug of choice.

  • @fuunguus i remember reading somewhere that rodents would gradually ween themselves off if they had ample food and water and social activity, versus rodents in isolation & stress that maintained their addiction. it could very well be that addicts are self-medicating. like you say let them decide, if they want to use they should be allowed. it would hurt noone, and when they want to stop, counseling (for addressing reasons why they use in the first place) and gradually tapering down.

  • @bobshenix but i would say that the addiction and dependence is only dangerous when H is taken away from the user, creating withdrawals and motivation to obtain the drug (ex. by stealing for money) , otherwise, they'd could use it and go about their business just like anyone else.

  • @vili1 i have never heard of that, you are most likely thinking of leukoencephalopathy which is a very rare unexplained disorder that is usually found in users who smoke street dope and is suspected to be caused by a contaminant that is activated by heat. long term diamorphine has the same safety profile as morphine and other opiates.

  • @Cyborgus1969 - I know only 5 countries where heroin is given to addicts in clinics on prescription: Switzerland, Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, England.. What other?

  • @Straylight100 not quite right.diamorphine which is basically heroin with vinegar thorugh a chemical process is not that dangerous than street heroin,BUT it is a proven fact that longtime heroin use destroys some parts of your brains(i cant pronounce them names,im from finland) and some user who quit using, the brains repair themselves ALMOST 100% but the damage heroin does to your brain is permanent, some recover almost fully some not so well. dont say diamorphine is non-toxic coz thats nottrue

  • We saw what happened in America when they outlawed alcohol. It made things 100 times worst and over night turned vast numbers of Americans into criminals. An underground black market was in place before the first bar closed. I do not advocate open legalization but rather a controlled decriminalization, like what we see in this video. We now have methadone clinics in the US and I think that is a great start. Now if we could do the same with crack and meth.

  • @MIRCWOOD Comparing heroin to morphine is even better, since heroin is made out of morphine by acetylation, hence its generic name diacetylMORPHINE. Heroin even needs to be broken down to 6-acetylmorphine and morphine in order to be active, as heroin by itself has a rather low mu-receptor affinity. The notion that heroin is unique and totally different from other opiates and opioids is wrong.
