STV will sell you this on DVD and charge you per episode. There were 7 one hour episodes made and they may offer you a discount if you purchase all seven. You need to contact the FOOTAGE SALES department at STV in Glasgow.

Geraldine McEwan's Miss Brodie seems to be more natural than Maggie Smith's Miss Brodie (in my opinion)...Smith was a great actress but I found her Jean Brodie a bit overacting quite a lot when she spoke her lines

I now realise how pretty Geraldine McEwan was when she was younger (she was in her late 40s when filming this TV series)...

@scanbran Yes, I recall this series - surprising to realize that it was made only 9 years after the feature film. I was very good but - unless my memory is playing tricks with me - I seem to remember that the series ended without finishing the story - Miss Brodie's dismissal after the death of one of her students in the Spanish Civil war. Am I right about that? This certainly should be on DVD if the tapes still exist.

Anyone know where the music can be obtained? I don't know why it has taken me until now to look for it. (And I agree - GMcE _is_ JB for me. That look.)

The reason this has not been released on DVD I would think would be down to rights on others versions - the rights of the book are no doubt tied up with some movie studio somewhere that may preclude a release, and of course the Maggie Smith movie being available on DVD may get in the way too. Also, very importantly, STV made this in conjunction with the Robert Stigwood Organisation and split rights like that can be a pain to unravel 30-odd years later.

You can actually have copies of this series transferred on to a dvd, but it will cost a couple of hundred pounds to do so. I need to dig up thedetails I found a couple of years back.

Rumour has it that Scottish TV (like the BBC's acts of cultural vandalism in the 70s 80s) wiped the tapes... That's, allegedly, why they won't/can't release it..

@scanbran Please put it on youtube!
I'd really love to get a copy of this on video or whatever. It seems my wife was in it (one of the girls), and it would be fab to surprise her with it. I really hope it is released soon - I think I'll contact STV about it...

It is STV who will not release this on dvd. I cannot think why. It was certainly one of their most lavish and lovingly crafted productions, Muriel Spark said that Geraldine MacEwan was by far her favourite Brodie. she added that the Maggie Smith version was primarily a "showcase" for Smith's talents.
I have some pictures of the Geraldine version as part of a blog on myspace. /thatdonald
Maybe it is time to petition STV into AT LEAST putting some clips on youtube -
