Such dancers perform for tips throughout the day and well into the night on the main square (the Zocalo) or on the smaller plaza between the Templo Mayor and the Metropolitan Cathedral. Often, multiple groups perform at the same time in close proximity, creating a din of overlapping rhythms. It is quite a sight when large numbers of locals join them, like the man wearing a tee shirt and jeans in this video. Sometimes men and women in business attire circle in sync with these professionals or stop for blessings of incense. I have seen more than fifty persons in a single circle.
