Stand in the Rain (Ch. 8) M 6/10

So as stated in the previous chapter I'm gonna announce lolalol99's prizes now. Chapter 8
Nicks P.O.V.
I looked at Joe and then at the letters on the counter. One said my name on it so I picked it up and walked to the backyard. When I reached the tree I climbed up and sat on the floor. For a while I just stared at the letter, studying the way she wrote my name. Then I opened the letter.

Nicholas,
Do you remember that day in the summer before eighth grade when we went downtown with my mom when she was looking for a job? I didnt look before crossing the street and you saved me from getting hit by that taxi. Thats when I realized I was in love with you. After everything that happened last night, I was really confused and my emotions were all over the place. When you said you loved me last night, I was furious. Ive spent all these years loving you while you were blinded by Claire. I finally gave up on you and then you kissed me and told me you love me. Now that Im calm and Ive thought about things, maybe someday we can be together but right now I just need to focus on myself and the baby. Please understand.

Joes P.O.V.
After Nick left me alone in the kitchen I saw the letter addressed to me and grabbed it. I stared at it for a long time before I decided to go for a walk. I went up to my room, grabbed my hoodie and my iPod, put the letter on my dresser, and headed out the front door. I walked down the street, listening to FTSK on full blast. Millions of thoughts were racing through my head. I mustnt have been paying attention because next thing I knew I ran into someone and was lying in the grass. Being the klutz that I am, I bought the other person down with me. I sat up in the grass and turned to see Vanessa doing the same next to me. As I looked closely at her, I noticed she had a bruise on her cheek and on her arms and tears were running down her face. There was a duffel bag lying next to her on the ground.
Joe- Vanessa whats wrong?
Vanessa-nothing. Nothings wrong. Im fine.
Joe-no youre not. Youre crying and you have bruises all over. Who did this to you? (He wipes a tear from her cheek. She shrugs him away and stands up)
Vanessa- no one. Look I only asked you to go homecoming with me last night because Claire told me to. She thought itd make Natalie jealous. (Joe stood up) And that kiss, it meant nothing ok? That was part of Claires plan. Dont think just because we kissed that youre something special. I kiss a lot of guys.
Joe- At least let me help you. You look like youre in trouble.
Vanessa- No. I dont want to drag you into my life.

Just then a black car turned the corner and drove down the street slowly. It came to a stop and a guy came out. Vanessa gasped and grabbed my hand.
Man- Vanessa (slurring words) get over here. NOW!
Vanessa- RUN!
