@arna11420 The UK would probably be better off as they could take up old trading partners such as India and other former colonies which made the UK rich in the first place. The UK was more or less told they needed to cut off trade with the rest of the world and focus more on European trading.

@darren4418 no NATO stopped the spread of communism. the EU and its predeccessors prevented a war breaking out between the western european nations. in the event of a euriopean civil war NATO would be powerless.

@CommanderMethos NATO and the common threat of the USSR kept us at peace for 60 odd years look at what is happening now with the collapse of the Euro the old German racism is back slagging off everyone else for having the gal to question their superiority.

@CommanderMethos I did not mention the British Empire in any way shape or form. I mentioned the United Kingdom and completely different entity. So I'm not sure where you got that from, the Uk will always be a shadow of it's former self. The British Empire in my opinion was a piece of beauty but also a piece of evil at times too. Would you rather be British or European? Thats my question I would rather be from Mars than European any day.

@andydenissmith depends by what you mean former self. if you mean as we are now. i dont belive there will be any diffrence. if you mean as we were when we were an empire, we are already shadows and we are never going to get that back.

@andydenissmith thers a diffrence between what something stands for and what something is. what we should be doing is staying in the eu and fighting to make it what it should be and not running away and burying our heads in the sand.
