  • I think the whole punk/new wave debate is very confusing. In my view, new wave was a toned down version of punk that made the charts more often and used more synthesizers. New Wave had more fashion sense (at the time, not now) whereas Punk was very "Anti-Estasblishment." The New Romantics (Duran Duran, Gary Newman, Visage, ABC, Human League) were Androgenous males who made a fashion statement as well, especially in London.
