let me further clarify :)

it has a tray inside , that holds two batterys , instead of one , so that your camera can have double the battery life. Basically you can charge both batterys and have up to 7 hours of battery life.

and portriats are taken vertically most of the time , right? well the veertical grip has another shutter button located in the vertical position so that porraits are alot easier to capture

i will be reocrding on a better camera from now on , the battery life is very good actually it will last you about 5,000 shots , but that depeneds on how long your camera is on for. The second abttery comes in handy.

a300 is not a very good choice. I bought it in june 2009 and now after only 1 year of using it i ordered Canon Eos 50D. I was very dissapointed with this camera.
