This video is a compilation of flights conducted over two days, June 19 and 24. June 19 was a day with fluffy clouds which made for some interesting video. We first performed an altitude flight to see how high we could fly. Steve was spotting me (Trevor) on the buddy box and I was flying by video glasses. For safety reasons the altitude was limited to Steve's ability to visually fly the aircraft. The goal of this flight was to test the vertical ability of the video system and help familiarize me with the landscape from above for FPV navigation. We conducted a full flight with low and slow circuits and my first unassisted FPV take off. We also performed distance range tests this day. Steve flew 3rd person above the field while I drove with the video equipment to test the range. According to the GPS we had great quality video up till 2.3Km away using the patch antenna. Farther than 2.3Km the video quality degrades considerably.
On the 24th Steve spotted on the buddy box using a 200' buddy cord. He stood at the flight line and I was back under a shelter with the video gear. We used cell phones with headsets to communicate to each other. I achieved the first FPV landings this day. Most of this day was flying circuits; I flew at least 5 take-off, circuit, approach and landing by video. According to Steve I now have my FPV Wings. Of course for safety reasons, FPV must always be conducted on buddy box with visual spotter. We tried an altitude flight with a narrow field of view but it was difficult to get my bearings so we cut the flight short.

Not sure, this aircraft is owned by the University of Waterloo and was made to carry experimental payloads. The plane is an extremely modified Kadet Sr.
It's an optical illusion due to the wide FOV lens. Check the part of the video with narrow FOV lens shot at the same height and you can see the difference. I fly FPV while being spotted on a buddy box by one of the club instructors. He makes sure that MAAC rules are being followed and that the aircraft doesn't venture into unsafe situations or airspace. The platform in this video is a Kadet Sr. modified to carry experimental payloads.
