My Mom had this done about 8 years ago, and its worked very well, but as of late, when the vns comes on it makes her want to cough, and when she laughs, drinks soda, or eat something cold like ice cream, she has a very hard cough, that takes her breath away. I think her vns might be too high, but she asked to to check online to see if anyone has had the same trouble.
i actually got vns in india it was 13000 dollars there as opposed to 35,000-40,000 here. but I am indian so i have family there and my dad is a doctor(cardiologist) so I was lucky enough to have all that to assist with all the cultural/ethical/professional issues that go along with medical procedures in 3rd world countries.
If anyone has questions about VNS feel free to ask me, I also got completely better with it and the combination with Parnate(MAOI) and of course with the god's mercy. One suggestion though is I got completely better after the combination with Parnate an old MAOI that was used years ago, but often is not now b/c of food and alcohol restrictions.Since VNS is an expensive procedure, i suggest first trying Parnate to see if that works alone b/c I was also medication resistant but Parnate helped.
would be interested to know how effective it is. i thought it was only experimental still--as a treatment for anxiety and/or depression, that is. (know it's used for seizures.)

I am very interested in this procedure. I have severe treatment-resistant depression. I have tried ECT many times and it doesn't help..

I had VNS two years ago and have had a miraculous recovery. No hospitalizations! It has been wonderful for me.
