When Jay and I got a wood stove last fall, he surprised me with his Boy Scout knowledge, and made these little wax fire starters to help get the stove rockin. Remember to be careful when heating up the wax, especially if you are working on a gas stove with a flame.

  • This is good but I like another recepie that uses dryer lint, coffee filter.

Reason I use the dryer lint is you can light it with just a spark. Take them with you when you hike in the woods jic you need to start a fire. They are easy to ignite just cut one open exposing the dry dryer lint and spark poof they ignite.

Take lint in a coffee filter use old wire to hold closed and dip into wax I dip once hotest wax and once in cooling wax to get a thick coating make them by the bucket.

  • agreed. the dryer lint recipe is a great one. problem is- we don't use a dryer : )

  • Just like the pot you got from sallys you go to a laundrymat and ask them to save you some when they clean the filters. I use to manage an apartment complex and had to collect lint from the dryers about every other day. Of have friends save theirs ect ect.

We have a coffee can and just save ours in the sealed can sealed bc we rather not chance a fire as you know just a spark and poof.

  • great idea! i know there is plenty of lint to go around.

  • Another skill lost to technology. How many people still have a bunch of newspapers lying around the house anymore?

  • i got most of mine off of freecycle.

  • You are a brilliant man. Thanks.

  • I like your manly stir stick.

  • @ilike2cheatatgames Well of COURSE that's a way to do it, but some days it can be a pain to light a wood stove. Other days it's not, this just makes it easier.

  • Excellent video, thanks man.

  • Be careful if you drop a match thats a light in that wax, run.

  • another one is:

you take a paper cup, fill it with sawdust, and then pour malted wax over that. its basically the same thing only with sawdust instead of paper. it lasts a long time.

and BTW you don't need to melt candles, you can get blocks of wax from fred meyer.

  • this is really good

  • @RyanIsHungry another good one is saw dust/wood chips, when ur done building houses/veggie gardens...just thought i'd put it out there for someone!

  • ya my personal way is that if you have paper light it on fire lol jeez thats how normal people start fires

  • @RyanIsHungry ok i like this what is it exactily is it newspaper whole rolled up and just regular candle wax and would parriffin wax work too thanks man
