  • This just has to be one of the most beautiful recordings of "For No One" by anyone covering that song. I am glad I get to hear it! Love that Emmylou!

(Not listening to all the other stupid people on here.) Bah!

  • The unmatchable, unsurpassable, lovely. Emmylou Harris, Thank you for posting this favorite.

  • A great version. I wish Paul would have slowed his version down maybe later in a live show. This is about the time that Emmylou was beginning to lose her upper range. It can get on your nerves but she still gets through beautifully.

  • listening to this great cover, I almost forget what the original sounds like. It almost brings tears to my eyes.

  • @panlemans "I'm not too fond of people covering Beatles songs, but this one is soo beautiful."

In general, I agree. The original versions are etched so deeply into my mind that anything else seems a sacrilege. But Emmylou's cover of "For No One" is an exception to the rule. In fact, I find that I prefer it to the original. It is so much more soulful and sad. She sang this at the White House in a tribute to Paul and was absolutely wonderful. You can find the whole program at the PBS site.

  • @ChristIllusion731 I respectfully disagree. Even mangled covers introduce young listeners to Beatles music that they might otherwise never hear. Some of them will go on to explore the original and come to love and appreciate it as much as any Beatles purist.

  • There is an angel in music.

  • @ChristIllusion731 Across the Universe was a great movie. Its got great covers of beatles songs

  • @systamatics I love trance music, I also love this song....

  • 17 people are trance fags!

  • @ChristIllusion731 You're damn right, man!

  • @crazytwilightfan11 they are few and far in between I will tell you that. Celebrities ruining beatles songs left and right to make it look like they have good taste. Pop stars and the Across the Universe movie have probably done more damage to The Beatles then Mark David Chapman or Lung Cancer did. I'm not really partial to country, but at least this version manages to be respectful to the original.
