One cool thing about living in San Diego is I get to see tons of military ships. It's good to know that America can still build BIG things. On March 10, 2001 I attended a christening ceremony for the USNS Pomeroy at the NASSCO Shipyards.
The ship was named in honor of Private First Class Ralph E. Pomeroy (Army) who was killed in combat during the Korean War. He was awarded the Congress the Medal of Honor posthumously for his remarkable bravery and sacrifice.
I documented the occasion on black & white and color super 8 mm film. In fact this was the last roll of Kodak sound film I ever shot. I transferred it to video using my projector and a mini DV camera.
Ralph E. Pomeroy is my Great Uncle's Cousin.
