Okay, in an attempt to settle the matter as to whether or not this film is a Western. I believe when it is referred to as such it is in regards to the particular style of filmmaking attributed to the genre which has become known as a Western, and it is this which links this film to the genre rather than the actual geographic location

wtf man I saw this like 4 years ago. I spent the last hour trying to find this film because I saw "Django Unchained", and there's a setting in the canyons (the hideout area) that looks identical to the one in Tarantino's film. Suspecting it is the same place.

Poetic, brutal, perfect. Whether it's a Colonial or Western is beside the point. It's a movie about life, death, and the choices we make that influence both.
