He hit 400 HRs and 3000 Hits. Only 8 players have done that. Oh yeah, and he played 2632 games without missing one....and this is all while playing SS. Besides pitching and catching, shortstop is the most physically demanding position. Cal had 3 errors in 1990! Only 8 errors in 1989! He's tenth all time in fielding percentage. Great Hitting, great fielding, and he played 2632 games in a row. He's worth getting giddy over.

ok... @babe25able you must be black. noone else could have played over two thousand five hundred games consecutively sick and all heplayed. best player ever in many peoples opinion. he was six four two hundred twenty somethin lbs as a shortstop. ozzie smith was black, small, light. he was fast because he was black. made me wana puke watchin someone do backflips all the way to their position when kids are watching. cocky bastards like that make me sick..

@babe25able , I saw him play, he was slow. He was know for his hitting for a shortstop not his awesome defense. He was sure handed, did extremely well with balls he did get to. Go watch videos of Ozzie Smith fielding short, there was a world of difference between those two. People love to fall into the mind set of his postioning as if it was ESP, there is no such thing. Cal played a position that should be reserved on for quick and speedy players.

I don't hate Ripken, just don't go all giddy over a .276 hitter and one who was a big man, go look at the very top HR hitter all time, he's as big or bigger than most of them. Then, look at his career stolen bases, a whopping 36 over 3000 games played. I love it when people say he was fast enough to get to balls hit hard into the hole yet when it comes to stealing a base he losted that speed ? It's BS.
