I've read that some use activated charcol (like for aquarium filters) as a layer between the soil and rocks to prevent mildew buildup. Ever do this?

@thornboy yes, I do this sometimes. but it is more necessary for closed terrariums. the activated charcoal keeps the water pure and clean.

To get rid of bugs in the moss, just soak it in tap water for about 15 minutes.

Is it ok if the moss is from a tree?

U can put in a salamander in this .. just feed earthworms an wingless fruit flys.. or crickets.. also be sure to mist the lil dude each day
