It's always a good idea to do research on your guest before asking questions on aire, like one of the View hosts says to Kevin "So you can write songs?". Well Mr. Eubanks only released maybe 9-10 CD's of nearly all original material, very intricate material before accepting the Tonight Show offer. And I do mean "deep material", he will not mention this, so I have to, this musician and composer is on a very different page than his fellow musicians in the industry. Go check out his body of work
I talked with Kevin Eubanks recently--and he and Jay remain good friends and keep in touch, so his decision to leave was not personal. He just wanted a break from 18 years of the routine to do his own thing (he's on tour playing festival dates and recording now like he hasn't had time to do in a while), and would do a TV series again in the future if one comes along. I take him at his word.
By the way, he isn't a total vegan--he does eat seafood.
At 3:13, Kevin Eubanks talks of being in a mall & spotting "American Idol" judge, Randy Jackson, and witnessing a woman working there begging Randy Jackson to let her "sing" for him, why did I immediately think of Monica Lewinsky, the Clinton White House intern famous for, err..."singing"? Surely, Jay Leno wouldn't have time to audition talent for "The Tonight Show" by having them "sing" for him as he seemed to get majorly annoyed at having to stop working his monologue when Eubanks interrupted
"The best way to handle the 10:00 show was just to not do it." I feel there's more that he feels too about the Tonight Show Conan fiasco but he won't say for obvious reasons. This is most likely the real reasons he left Leno and NBC.
