Near the top of the cables. Here, the slope changes to less steep, so the cable is quite heavy at this point. At the end of the video, the climber is at a point where you can simply walk. There is one more section of cable, but it is only mandatory if the granite might be wet.
@Rep0007 No, no "safety hook". 99% of the Half Dome climbers go up and down without special equipment. I do like gloves on the way down, though.

But... no safety hook to the cable? Standing free on 45 degree rock with a 1 mile fall on either side? What if your foot slips... just a little? It seems crazy. Do you really trust your old smooth worn-out sneakers that much?

@kckckc No posts! check my other video too. It is not nearly as bad as it seems. In fact, I think I prefer this mode, since you can move sideways a few feet, and stop to rest on little ledges along the way.
