In excerpts from an interview on Tampa Bay Fox affiliate WTVT, former Florida warden Ron McAndrew here repudiates the death penalty.

A compelling orator, McAndrew recounts his personal experiences in overseeing of a number of executions in the state of Florida. He describes the process by which he came to resolve that killing others is wrong, whether by the hand of the state or the individual; he further opines that life imprisonment in fact constitutes the most severe punishment which the state can administer.

Unfortunately, this video of McAndrew's interview has been edited; this was apparently a panel show, and much has been excised. If anyone has access to the full interview, please upload it.

Thanks, and I welcome your comments.

  • Why did you not show the rebuttal?? Anyone who thinks McAndrew's "born again" bleeding heart nonsense is worth listening to needs to review what Oba Chandler did to a mother an her two teen daughters in Tampa Bay.

After you've finished with that one, take a look at what a guy called "Pliers" did to young women in California. (If you can stomach it.)

Both of these men have been on death row for years and years. They watch TV and get fed and continue to enjoy the taxpayer dollars.

  • McAndrew is aware of the terrible crimes that many death row inmates have committed. After all, he was a prison warden. Don't be so quick to dismiss the convictions of others, especially those with McAndrew's experience.

Yes, people commit terrrible crimes; that's not a "rebuttal". What of those who are wrongly convicted and later exonerated based on new evidence? You can't reverse a death sentence. I guess executing the innocent is worth it to you. I don't agree.

  • The death penalty is a joke, it has not deterred anything. It has only made things worse.

  • How refreshing to hear this man express his morality.

  • the death penalty is so wrong. it's never the right thing to do. it's never right to kill even though murders kill but why is it right for the death penalty? no matter what killing is wrong for what ever the reason is. just let them rot in prison.

  • the only humane death penalty there is a bullet between the eyes.

  • He's just gone soft....

  • I'..to say ! Its wrong and will not make A change' so many of these people Are mentally Ill. and very disabled'. abused poverty poor health . As a child growing up!.. bullied.. and On and On.. No More Death Penalty. rob418r

  • i agree 100% percent

  • Florida executed Willie Darden in 1989 knowing full well he was innocent. There is no way he could have committed the murder he was conviced of.

  • oops...sorry accident...anyway he was able to stand trial and when the crime was not found insane due to being medicated, but when the crime was committed he was not medicaid and delusional. I was angered that this man was put to death as he was mentally ill, and they made sure to put him on medication so he was "fit for trial" uhhh that is why I no longer agree w/ it.

  • I learned of a case in my psychology class about a man who comitted a crime , he was manrtally ill. when he was put in prison he was given medication to quite his psycosis and
