Is this a live or studio recording? This or that a great musicians's statement.

I am ashamed that I never knew of this master before tonight, but I thank the poster for this and for opening my eyes to genius.

All of the recordings by Sofronitsky should be part of the learning curriculm in every conservatoire, a perfect example of pianism played with grace, discretion and personality

the greatest interpretation of this piece. I call it chopin's fifth ballade. it has the most poetic coloristic and improvisatory quality. I can't wait until I retire so I can play it every day.

Splendid - I have Cortot and Lipatti playing the Barcarolle. I see why Richter and Gilels considered Sofronitsky the greatest...

Thanks truecrypt. This is the recording that made me throw most of my rock music records away.

Howcome the speed is too high because the first chord sounds like D instead of C#?.?.?.?
This misleads the listener both as far as the speed and pitch are concerned.
Please remove this cd audio as it stands now or reduce its speed to proper one.

Speed (you probably mean tempo) is not too high, but the key is higher due to several conversions: old LP -> .wav -> .mp3 -> .wmv -> YT's conversion to .swf
Nothing misleads listeners here unless one wants to show off his/her absolute pitch, which is not an ultimate sign of musical abilities - Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Wagner had a relative pitch and still "managed" to survive.
As for you demand to remove this video - I will gladly do so when you upload a better version.
