Mischa Barton's Meltdown

Mischa Barton is currently starring in the new show "The Beautiful Life," but it seems as though her own life might be going through a serious rough patch.

The O.C. hottie was placed under an involuntary psychatric hold recently after police answered a call from her residence. The rumored reason for the hospitalization was a drug-fueled meltdown, but there is no confirmation as of yet. While Barton's reps insist that she is doing much better and is okay and resting, close friends remain very worried about her mental state and one source even flat-out says that "she is a mess." That same source claims that Barton is a "tortured and troubled person."

Celebrity gal-pal Nicole Richie parted ways Mischa, due to her out of control partying. Richie didn't want to be around Mischa's "negative, unsafe behavoir." And especially Now that Richie is a mom, she has drastically scaled back from the party scene and hangs more with other moms.

Recovering party girl Lindsay Lohan is also reportedly very worried about her former clubbing partner. Sources say that the pair haven't spoken in months, due to Bartons's behavoir and Lindsay's attempt to get her own life together. It's rumored that Lindsay offered a treatment facility and a therapist to help her friend, but Mischa completely ignored it. And by the way, if Lindsay Lohan is telling you that you need help, it's gotta be pretty bad.

Insiders say that this downward spiral has been coming for years, and are hoping Barton's current hospital stay will forge a new beginning for the young actress.

Prior to her current setback, fans and insiders were looking forward to Barton's return to TV. She has not been replaced and we hear she will in fact return to play a model struggling to compete with her younger catwalk rivals.

Back off. Part of me says it's no wonder some "Hollywooders" drink or do drugs to extremes in order to escape; the media are relentless in their pursuit and intrusion of their privacy. They're human with human problems like the rest of us. They deserve privacy too. I wouldn't want to be a paparazzi TV anchor, director, or producer on Judgment Day. I have a feeling their own lives will be exposed for all to see, but that won't be the worst of it.

i loved watching mischa in the OC. she was my favorite character. so sad when she died in the show :(
