Nationalists (Catholics) were kept down in Northern Ireland by various means and were 2nd class citizens. Northern Ireland was FAR from being a democratic state then.

It wasn't just Ulstermen that died at the battle of the Somme. It was Irishmen from the entire island.
"The South was hostile towardsthe North", she states? It never was. It was the other way around.
