@johnevamy Thank You! I only asked because the structure of this piece reminded me so much of three other double fugues I know: Reger's Op. 135b and Shostakovich's Op. 87: fugues no. 4 (e minor) and 24 (d minor).

@farfreeindependent yes, it's the second type of double fugue; in the first type (kyrie from mozart's requiem etc) the two subjects are present in counterpoint from the beginning. In this fugue the second subject has its own "exposition" (2'30"), followed by the combination of subjects in a third "exposition" (4'30"). To avoid complicating it too much there's 'normal' double fugue, and then there's this type, which is like a 'staggered double'- you get fed the caviar, but in bits!
