Here's a quick sound test of the possibilities that you can get with a Rocktron Piranaha. This first part covers only high gain sounds. You wont find this technical playing or shreding. Only basic notes/chords/riffing to HEAR the preamp sounds.
I recall my presets via midi and then I dial the buttons once, showing current values, so then I go to maximum, minimum and middle values.

Gear used:
- Guitar: Caparison Dellinger II Pro.Black tuned to C
- Guitar pick-ups: Bareknuckle Painkiller bridge and Caparison PH-N neck
- Cables: Spectraflex
- Cabinet: Mesa Boogie RoadKing (2x C90 + 2x V30)
- Preamp: Rocktron Piranha with ENGL selected tubes
- Poweramp: VHT 2/90/2 with stock KT88 tubes
- Midi footcontroller: Behringer FCB 1010

  • yeah I sold the Pirahna.the Twin Tube is more thicker.I only paid $80 so am gonna keep untill i get a good power amp.wont be my main amp,but something extra to have.best setup I had was an JMP-1 and 9200-JFX-1 rack.then I went to just Marshall heads.JCM800-DSL100.I did compare an ADA MP-1 with the JMP-1 and the ADA was more nasty and thicker like you said.Kinda funny" I am playing a crate GT200DSP head now,and for $200 its not as lame as u would think.

  • @dewycatt2112 I used to own a Rocktron Piranha and I sold it pretty quickly afterward. Thought the heavy distortion was a little too tinny/stiff. I knew a guy who had a digitech twin tube preamp, so unfortunately I've heard it - not my thing. He got fired for backing a semi-truck into the building, causing minor structural damage. I think the ADA MP-2 kills for some thick ass distortion. Through a Marshall dual monobloc voice B out a marshall 4x12. It is a bit buzzy but it's thick

  • Brad Gilis also used the GFX-1.That alone should be Enough to Convince!

  • And the tone is thick and crushing". You can actually adjust the compression amount and levels to your taste and it has 4 gain stages. Can also adjust input tube gain and tube saturation for a variety of tones and feel/response.It also has Delay/Flange/Chorus.which are very good!.I had a 2120 that does not even compare to the tone this makes. The 2120 was too soft Distortion and not enough Bottom end Hard Crunch".The GFX-1 tone is like what you hear on Stryper"s to hell with the Devil Albulm.

  • I just sold the Pirahna last month. WAY underated", I had all three-JMP-1, Pirahna, and My Digitech Twin Tube GFX-1. My GFX-1 is Way better than the two others. and when you turn it on the sound comes on slowly just like a true tube amp. Because The GFX-1 is a true Tube preamp". I had a couple of these before, but never new about the speaker sim..This GFX-1 is an ALL out Hard Rocking/Ball busting Preamp! Has Mesa type bottom if you want, but Has that great classic Marshall wallup!

  • @pierrelaforge Exactly, the lowly Rockmaster is all tube. It's too bad, the clean is the typical Peavey crap and the other channels sound exactly alike which meant the RM despites having 4 tubes only had one good sound.

  • @dewycatt2112 Actually despite having 2 preamp tubes it works like a JMP-1, that is most of the distortion is SS and 1 tube is used to add wamth. Both these preamps use one of the tubes for clean and one for dirt. The Tri-Axis has 5 tubes and cascades the triodes like a regular amp does.

  • No Power Conditioner, oh o.k..

  • if you like rectifiers, then just buy a mesa/boogie. I love "MY" pirahna! its the rich mans Hot rodded Marshall!

  • Ha" funny! the Pirahna is far better than a Rockmaster! you just dont know what your doing!. Rockmaster is still a typical Peavey'. Frizzy and Farty sounding! I owned one so I know! Pirahna-Jmp-1-Triaxis-D.tech 2120-MP-1...them are REAL tone making preamps!
