For the first time, six cardinals and thirteen Catholic bishops participated in the divine Orthodox liturgy in the Church of Santa Sofia of Strovolos (Nicosia) this Sunday in Cyprus, which preceded the opening of the 22nd summit of religious representatives organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio."Though we express ourselves in different languages, through this liturgy we have affirmed the unity of faith and the bond of love between us," the Orthodox prelate explained. At the conclusion of the liturgy, Andrea Riccardi, founder of the Sant'Egidio Community, greeted the Orthodox churches and underlined the value of the Orthodox liturgy's beauty that carries people to the heart of peace.Cardinal Sandri at the conclusion of the celebration extended Pope Benedict XVI's greetings to Chrysostomos II and Theodore II and offered three symbolic medals to the head of the Orthodox Church in Cyprus, one of which was produced for the World Youth Day in Sydney.
