Great crested newt eating a smooth newt

GCN survey 2011 - whilst checking some traps I noticed this one had a female GCN in it which had more or swallowed a male smooth newt. On releasing on to dry land adjacent to the pond to check that all newts were OK, she regurgitated her meal. The smooth newt was left under some damp moss to recover from his ordeal, whilst the GCN were all put back into the pond.
