@soulierinvestments The Wikipedia article on Smathers is a good read, especially about his race against Claude Pepper for the Sentate.

crepehanger47 -- Thanks for the upload, but, sheez, do you have to provide a spoiler! Half the fun is watching it play out without knowing how it ends.

@TheRedsox1981 WHat was your grandfather like? He's seems like a great person!

I remember watching and admiring him as a kid when he played for the Cleveland Indians. I was too young to know anything about his difficulties--we just thought he was a great player. I remember him having a terrific arm.

Glad he was able to keep both oars in the water for the game show.

with the same aplomb he brought to his conversations with the mild mannered like jack benny or the intenseley talented like a bette davis, john daly breezed through this talk with the clearly unbalanced piersall. i was more scared than he was.

Looks like the grandaughter is not coming back to answer anymore questions. I checked Dead or Alive and he is very much alive. I met him again in 2003 at a card show at the Gibraltar Trade Center in Taylor , Mi. Just as charming as ever.

I am from Chicago.
Jimmy Piersall was the great announcer with Harry Carey for the Whte Sox in the 70s.
The two were the best ever.
God bless Jimmy Piersall and all his family.
