  • Great film noir, i don't about u guys but for me the best noirs are about criminals or bad cops like the amazing Mr. O' Brien here, i find the ones about the so called "good cops' or 'private eyes' corny and tired since that crap has been on TV since forever. Shield For Murder is wonderful and underrated!! great upload.

  • at 00:00:00:56.. please look at the wall.. you will notice the microphone which usually held on top of the actors...

the film director should have thought about such a mistake!

  • @Glinkaism1 That's "Western Electric." Yep, the old phone company folks. You also see the 639 used in photos of Mutual newscaster Gabriel Heater.

  • @mrblowhard2u I'm guessing from the shape that it could be an RCA 44 senior velocity mic. It's a familiar mic. But the nerf covers it up. It's a ribbon mic used most often in studios and on stage. Film used some esoteric models that are hard to find. Many made by RCA.

More likely it is a Wester Electric (later Altec) 639, a mic with many changeable patterns. It was used for outdoor on location. You see it on booms in westerns. Called the "birdcage" from its looks. :)

  • @AtheistSpanker Me, too. Terrific movie. O'Brien had some great moments. Micing & processing were really good. They noticeably pumped up the level for Carolyn Jones' lines at the bar in editing.

  • Cigarette made for a great prop to emphasize all kinds of emotions.

  • bad lieutenant

  • If you just dropped in and you're wondering if you should watch this movie...you should. It's pretty good. I'm giving it a thumbs up.

  • "it's just not on, all those pretty girls left in te 20th century!"

  • Thanks ohpo.

    The ending was terrific.

Edmund O'Brien made a nasty bad guy.
