Welcome to the very first 5 Min Portrait VIDEO. What I discovered in the first 5 min is that it may be a little tough to stick to the 5 Min time frame when trying to set up, direct the subject and try to get useful images. There is a pretty good chance that I will go beyond the 5 min on these types of shoots.

For more information and to see the images please click the link above.

I used the Nikon D3s and Sigma 70-200 2.8 OS as well as the Simga 85 1.4 during this photo shoot.

  • ur using the sigma or nikon 70-200?

  • @dreamchaser320 I was using the Sigma for this video if I recall.

  • Great video man, can i ask...if the lighting is low, would you change the ISO or shutter speed first? or just make sure to use a fast lens to keep the ISO down?

And (i have a D5000 with either my 35mm 1.8 or 18-55mm 3.5-5.6) Should i stick with 35 or add some variety with a zoom?

  • @davemorris85 great question. First things first is if you can keep the ISO down than I would do that but if your trade off is going to be a not sharp image than by all means bump the ISO.

  • great video as usual. what was up with the focus on the lense? would you recommend this lens for portraits or is the focus that bad?

  • @justinmumm the focus is fine, its the low light that most cameras have an issue focusing in.

  • Are you shooting with new 85 f/1.8 g ?

  • what kind of lavalier microphone do you use

  • Great tutorial but I have couple questions I would very much appreciate if you could answer.

    1) What focus mode did you use? Auto AF-A or Single AF-S

    2) What AF area mode? Single, Point or Auto

    3) What Metering? Matrix, Center or Spot

Did you have the ADL OFF or on?

    Thank you.

  • Great raccoon eyes in your model!

  • My camera only has up to 1600 ISO and at that its super hard to get any crisp photos.. I'm thinking about getting a new camera, the Canon 60D as an upgrade but I'm not sure if that would be better to get or maybe a new 2.8/f lens?? Can anyone gimme so advice?

I shoot nature photography for the most part but I'm also getting into taking portraits for people. Help???

  • Well, these kind of videos are pretty good =)
