Makes me remember that once gas stations were more than gas stations.

Whole different America back in the early 50s. Very few TV sets in use.
Uncle Milty was TVs biggest star. When the show went off the air, NBC
paid him 5 million bucks for a 30 yr contract to avoid future competition.
In those days if you had a steady job like gas station attendant or dime
store clerk, you could afford a house and a pet. Didn't take 2 incomes
to support a family.
No rock and roll or long play records or stereo, foreign cars, jobs sent
overseas. tnx 4 posting.

I got the same impression. Regis would have been 19 years old in 1950.

They came out to your car and filled the tank. They took your money, they gave you change. They wiped your windshield, they checked your oil, they checked your tires. They were friendly, they smiled.

Can you tell me what made 1950s gas stations more than a gas station? :-)

Thanks for posting the men from texaco.. it brings back memories of small screen tv's, sitting on the living room floor and watching uncle miltie, sid cesar and imogene coca, phil harris and alice faye.. before red and blue states, class warfare and free stuff for the parasite class.. when a dollar was backed by silver.. real money not waste paper.. oh how did we change from the land of the free and home of the brave to the land of the entitled and home of the slave..?

Most of the younger people today do not have any idea of what a "full service station" is, (or was!)

Also polio, smallpox, women treated as second class citizens, the top tax rate at 91%, and everyone's favorite: segregation, jim crow laws, and lynchings. Yeah the 50's were a real paradise.
