This is an extract from 8mm movie footage taken my father around 1948. The extract is from a 1¼-hour original film of Islay, Argyll, Scotland. The full film shows much of the villages of Port Wemyss and Portnahaven and it's people of that time as well as other parts of the island. This fourth and final extract moves on to the 1950s and shows some of my family.

  • even if i could find words, i would still be speechless...except maybe "bravo!" ,and,of course;"Thanks for sharing this"

  • Thanks pipewatcher! Compliment very much appreciated.

  • Well, what can I say? A fitting end to a great series! Thanks again for sharing this and all the work you must have had with this project. A really unique document of the time.

I also spotted the Lochiel. I know of someone I think you will make very happy with this video (Steve Cranston, who also runs a blog about her). Haven't got his details to hand just now, I'll point it out to him this evening.

  • Again, thanks for the compliment Armin!

I know for certain there is more of the Lochiel on other film I have. It will be some time before I get that little project done though!

  • This is closest thing to a home movie that I have of my mother (Marion Maclean), and other relatives. Needless to say, it is priceless to me. Thank you does not say enough, but thank you all the same.

  • who was ur seanor?

  • This was soooo lovely, my seanor was from Islay and this would have been in his time, thankyou. You should make a dvd and sell it , i will buy one and so would many others, it wont always be here on youtube, it will vanish again in the mists of time if you dont. My happiest memories are in Islay, thanks again.
