I think you are a terrible jerk! Your friend was yelling let him go and you should have listened to your mate! Granted you would have lost your fish but he would of atleast stood a little chance. I have no patience for people like you who ould rather murder an animal by keeping it on the line instead of been hapy getting it to the boat.
duh he didn't mean let it go as in unhook it. he meant put the reel in freespool so that the tarpon could swim away. How the heck could the kid unhook the fish from 20 feet away?
When a shark gets after your fish, the proper thing to do is cut the goddam line. You lost the fish when a 15 ft hammerhead gets on it, so just cut it loose and keep fishing.
