  • Chickens can be fed full fodder, that’s really the only animal I recommend that for. Grass fed animals are pasteurized but, due to the differences in the time it takes to grow, the nutritional values are very different. Some other fodder systems operate with overhead misting. This creates a lot of mold and humidity. There isn't enough space to answer all your questions but I would be happy to talk you through it if you give me a call at 800.327.6835 ext 246.~ Abigail T.

  • Hi Eric,

I'm curious to know if the fodder is the only thing you feed your chickens or if you have to supplement with something else? We are looking into a unit to feed our 25 chickens, 2 cows and 6 pigs (come spring). Also, do you think the chickens would do well on just barley or do you feel like they need the wheat too? Thanks for your input!

  • @faithwingnut Thank you for your question. Chickens are probably the only animal it is OK to feed a 100% fodder diet without supplementing with some roughage (usually hay/straw). Chickens LOVE fodder and will eat everything- root mat, sprouts as well as any seed that has not germinated. We have had success feeding barley, wheat, rye and buckwheat.

I would be happy to talk you through it. You can contact me at 800.327.6835 ext 246.

  • Hi Eric, I too am wondering if you were able to get your chickens exclusively on the fodder and if you find the system to be cost effective. It seems like a lot of outlay to feed chickens. And I am wondering why a cow or pig or even a sheep would require roughage, aren't grass fed animals just pastured? Is this different? We are a small hobby set-up and I am very interested in this type of feed, looking at Fodder Solutions too. Seems a big benefit that they are climate controlled. Thoughts?
