The Social Services Worker program combines classroom work with practical experience to provide students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to work in the diverse and complex field of community and social services.

As a graduate of the Social Service Worker program, you will be eligible to register as a social service worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

The program focuses on the development of front-line counselling skills that will enable students to work with individuals and groups in a variety of social service settings. In addition to theoretical models, methods and skills of social service work practice, you will receive extensive training in, community organizing and development, crisis Intervention, group work and life skills methodology.

At Durham College, the student experience comes first. In September 2010, the college welcomed more than 30,000 students to campus including more than 7,400 full-time post-secondary students as well as part-time, Second Career and continuing education students; apprentices; and online learners. The college offers a wide range of market-driven programs in a number of different disciplines including business, information technology, energy, media, art, design, general arts and sciences, skilled trades, justice, emergency services and health care, enabling them to develop the skills required to meet the demands of today's job market.

Durham College's Oshawa and Whitby campuses are located in a safe and secure setting that offers the best of country and city living including; access to a wide variety of shopping options, sports and entertainment options, and the city of Toronto, only a short distance away.

Of course you don't have to leave campus to have a fun and rewarding student experience. We have everything you need for a student experience that balances challenging studies with fun and exciting activities outside the classroom right on campus.

Durham College's Student Services building supports students in their education efforts while fostering lifelong learning. It also serves as a vital first point of access for potential applicants, current students and graduates, thereby establishing a familiar resource over the life of an individual's relationship with the college.
