As the Gateway to Eternity now reveals itself to me
Is it just a metaphor for a summons
to a revelation of nothingness?

I realize it may be just a fanciful dream
a useless dialogue between hope and fear...
desire and myth
whose justification knows not the reality
of those beckoning gates.

Are the waning embers
of my conscious mind searching
for what may be an inevitable void of substance?

With the timeline of my existence, in its final chapter,
on that inescapable last page,
whose remaining words are for me, alone, to ponder,
as if by this very ponderance...
some truth may be found?

But for what purpose?

What will be... will be.

Am I not merely just one more
of the countless forgotten tales
whose spark falls dim
extinguished in the sea of obscurity?

Let the purveyors of myth have their day
in the sunlit realm of the living.

Their joyful rays of hope illuminate
with questionable results
the darkness of Eternity.

Their words seek to echo in its silence
which no man may pursue.

For recognition is an activity
in the minds of the living
and the emptiness of Eternity from whence we came
is our reward for unjustified expectations
and hopes... and dreams.

For within this thought,
left to regardless consideration...
that though I may cease being as an ''I''
I may never transcend death
emerging within that ''we''
that some anticipate beyond the grave.
