The case of Venezuela clearly demonstrates, as did Yugoslavia and now Russia, that the State Department needs to have processes to monitor and sanction countries that make constitutional changes in the name of "democracy" that remove protections, checks and balances, and foster democratic tyrannies as described by Aristotle.

  • While military officials have talked about Venezuela being a state sponsor of terrorism, this concern about FARC and Venezuela is the closest that I have heard a State Department official come to calling Venezuela a state sponsor of terrorism.

It is about time; Venezuelas turn to terrorism has been a significant defeat in the War on Terror, and putting our heads in the sand doesnt make that fact go away.
