Crota, massing towers vs destroyers is very normal. Hum isnt able to get enough flying machines in time. So for this phase in the game, he needs a LOT of towers, cuz destroyers do extra damage vs towers cuz they have heavy armor which takes extra damage from magic attack.
Btw I have seen lots of ud's going lich first and dk 2nd. Not a strange combination at all. The Lich-skill you were talking about is dark ritual.
