This great song' is very apt' for these unsettled times.There are two recorded studio versions of this song'The Single version' and also the one from the Album'Exotic Birds & Fruit'...If my memory serves me well?..The former has BJ Cole' on pedal-Steel..More prominent than LP version.Great Post'...Thanks'

You weren't the only one lost about what he was singing there--I saw them in Chicago in the spring of '74 on the tour supporting the "Exotic Birds" album and Gary Brooker introduced the song observing the fact that everybody was asking him just what the heck he was saying!

This is simply amazing - thanks for posting ! What this clip lacks in sound quality it surely has in superb playing ! What a great band PH always was - and still is..! They will be remembered not for their flamboyant approach but for their original art and musical craftmanship. Brooker for president !

This is amazing! I never knew all these legendary Procol performances were available! I have got to find a dvd that collects all these great clips of the band at their peak!
Anyone else share my opinion that EXOTIC BIRDS was PH's masterpiece? Why it never hit "big" is beyond me...too great for it's own good, perhaps. But i really wish it had come with a lyric sheet because it took me 20 years to finally figure out that Gary was singing "...when you're BEING HELD TO RANSOM!"
