On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) is directed by Peter R. Hunt. It is the sixth spy film in the James Bond series, based on the 1963 novel of the same name by Ian Fleming, and the only one to star George Lazenby as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. In the film, Bond faces Ernst Stavaro Blofeld (Telly Savalas), who is planning on unleashing a plague through a group of brainwashed "angels of death" unless his demands are met. Along the way, Bond meets, falls in love with, and eventually marries Contessa Teresa di Vicenzo (Diana Rigg).

The soundtrack to the film was composed, arranged, and conducted by John Barry. It was his fifth successive Bond film. Barry felt it would be difficult to compose a theme song containing the title "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" unless it was written operatically, in the style of Gilbert and Sullivan. Director Peter R. Hunt allowed an instrumental title theme. The track is notable for its incorporation of the Moog synthesizer in its recurring bassline - the first time this instrument had been heard in a film soundtrack. Its distinctive sound would become a mainstay of soundtracks in the 1970s.
Barry also composed the love song, "We Have All the Time in the World", sung by Louis Armstrong. With lyrics by Burt Bacharach's regular lyricist Hal David, it is heard during the BondTracy courtship montage, bridging Draco's birthday party in Portugal and Bond's burglary of the Gebrüder Gumbold law office in Bern, Switzerland. It was Louis Armstrong's last recorded song (He died of a heart attack two years later.) Barry recalled Armstrong was very ill when he recorded the song, but recorded it in one take.

Trivia: As Bond passes a janitor in Draco's headquarters, the man can be heard whistling the Goldfinger (1964) theme.

  • Thanks for posting and congrats on the great editing job. If you're not professional, then you should be.

  • Thank you for your interest too.

  • Superb piece of editing, especially like the way you use the central characters most poigniant expressions almost as a montage but cut with brief action sequences. The inclusion of Diana Rigg on ice skates is a master stroke!

  • Thank you TG for your positive observations ....please visit again soon.

  • The four people who don't liked it must be from SPECTRE.

  • @vaeveja ....you forgot to include Ernst Stavaro Blofeld Hee-Hee.

  • Best Bond Theme and best bond movie ever. As Simple as that.

  • From the opening chords, this theme is captivating. John Barry worked magic with his compositions.

  • @iflarnted I totally agree.

  • @bigswano I agree. I once saw somebody's list of the best Bond villains, and whoever it was put Gert Frobe as Goldfinger at the top. Gert was great, and had probably the most famous line in all of the Bond films -- "No, Mister Bond ...... I EXPECT YOU TO DIE!!!" -- but I would place Telly Savalas as Ernst S. B. at the top. He was SO sinister and arrogant .... sort of like your typical New Yorker!!! LOL Just kidding, New Yorkers!

  • Telly Savalas was excellent in his role as Ernst Stavro Blofeld. I wish he would have been in a few more Bond films! George Lazenby is the most under rated James Bond! An excellent on screen fighter, he could have done more, they offered, but his agent gave him some bad advice, saying cold war spy movies would become passe'. Such is life!

  • This is my all time favorite soundtrack to any 007 film. John Barry out did himself on this one!

Too bad Lazenby wasn't a team player. He was a far better Bond than Roger Moore could ever hope to be.

  • The Sound Quality is absolutely superb, and the video absolutely "Crisp" beautiful you have selected some of my all time favourite films and composers John Barry,O.H.M.S.S.and Ipcress,a fellow Yorkshireman,!, and Ron Goodwin {Where Eagles Dare} such haunting and stirring soundtrack music, they just dont write soundracks like this anymore,theV/E,the time it must have taken to do that,,Its like watching them in the Cinema again the first time. made the hairs on my neck stand up all over again,!!

  • My fav Bond film also. Lazenby was great considering this was his first real acting gig. Peter Hunt a fantastic director. He had been editor on first 4 Bond films and supervising editor and second unit director on the fifth. My fav Barry score. Lazenby should have done more. Stupid agent.

  • 1:36 onwards is AWESOME!
