This video is of the July 11, 2010 total solar eclipse, onboard the cruise ship Paul Gauguin in the South Pacific near French Polynesia. It starts about 3 minutes (3:00) before the start of totality. My friend Bob Stephens and I had cameras set up on the port side of the ship. As luck would have it, the ship turned to port just before totality, blocking our view, so we went to the other side of the ship where we had cameras with wide-angle lenses set up. Near mid-totality, the ship turned back to starboard, bringing the eclipse back into view at about the 4:15 point on the video.
The voice over the PA system is that of Jay Anderson, a Canadian eclipse meteorologist. The other voice heard after the start of totality is that of eclipse chaser Bill Kramer.
Fantastic. Sorry you had to spend time down in the Cooks, etc... poor guy. NOT!
Mahalo for sharing a glimpse of what it was like.
