ABSTRACT

This Tech Talk is designed to in two parts and covers the basics of high definition video for consumers and the basics for video production and post production.

This talk will cover the current HD delivery formats in the US and their relationship to consumer equipment (e.g. television, home video) and installation. Different viewing methods will be compared including direct displays vs projection.

  • The original reason behind interlacing was not to do with bandwidth. It was because of the refresh rates of old style CRT monitors to stop the bottom of the picture being darker than the top.

  • naquinn, this is an Interesting and enlightening comment! Actually this is true that CRTs had flicker and brightness consistency issues with displaying progressive feeds, however the statement implies that bandwidth had nothing to do with the decision to interlace, which is not true!

    Bandwidth was indeed a main consideration with the decision to interlace video for broadcast, still what you have brought up is good stuff. It's not covered in this talk.
