To pdkirb: The 'Salt! Salt! Salt!' came along in the early '90's. It came from a comedy duo/Buffett cover act in Maryland called 'Change of Pace with Bob and Jeff'. They had many fans that would also go to Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD, to see Jimmy every Summer and this thunderous Salt! Salt! Salt! chant always surprised Jimmy because it was unique to that venue. He must've liked it since he recorded a live version of the song there and put it on a CD, so now everyone does it.

You also left off "Salt ! Salt ! Salt ! "

Having seen Buffett in concert, it's so hard to watch this now without shouting, during the refrains, "Salt! Salt! Salt!" And, of course, "Hang on! Hang on! Hang on!" (If you've been to a concert, you'll understand...) Ah, Jimmy, you are a rite of passage that EVERYONE should experience!!! ;-)

I think it is amazing... I love Jimmy Buffet, I have seen him in concert a few times now... and this video is from 7 years before I was born. It is just weird to me that as much as his music feels like a part of me, he was singing on the tonight show long before I was around. I don't know how to explain why, but it just seems amazing and strange.

He finally owned a restaurant in Key West that he gave the name of this one his smash hit.

Yep. Didn't know the name at the time (being relatively young), but the face and the voice I did know. That's the Buffett I grew up listening to. He never disappoints whenever he performs "Margaritaville".
just awesome!

Thank you so much for posting. Two of my very favorite people. Just wish we could see the complete interview that followed the commercial. Miss you Johnny!
