(June 12, 2008) To ban or not to ban, that is the issue in Turkey. The pro-Islamic government tried to overturn a ban on women wearing headscarves in the universities. But the Supreme Court says no, lifting the ban would violate Turkey's strict constitution that separates church and state. For violating the constitution the ruling party could be banned from politics - a controversial move as the party has been elected twice by the people.

  • People should be allowed to wear the headscarf, but they should not be forced to wear it, nor should they be forbidden by the government to not wear it. (Obviously, this means that the face has to be visible at appropriate times et al.)

  • you can combine secularism and religious freedom. its completely possible. secularism doesnt mean prohibiting people to fulfill their religious obligations.

  • The whole muslim world doesn't Respect the Secular Attaturk worshipers. The land is for all muslims not so called " turks". It's time to take back our muslims land back from the kuffars. They think Instabul is made for "attaturk" worshipers... it's for all Muslims and we are kicking you out idiots.

  • @SSErgenekon1488

well i find your clothing oppressive

your mind been infiltrated by the media and poxy high end magazine

hijab is not oppression is liberating for me

    btw u spelt Opresssion wrong

  • @SSErgenekon1488 u r not a muslim (arabs has nothing to do with this ,our turkish sisters wants hijab ), and the ban is lifted bad news for u attaturk worshipper

  • Once again secular is at its hyprocasy, they claim its for freedom but yet the ban a relgiious symbol, and also they band the niqab but yet they allow bikinis and people to go rnd naked

  • @khiljiauto

    yes we should respect them

  • @SSErgenekon1488

look just bcoz the biased media show the hijab as an oppression it dosent mean it is its just a simple tactic to create a bad image of islam.

and sir why is nudity considered to be modernised and hijab as backwardness

and the static show that the nos of women opposing the ban on wearing of hijab are more than the women wanting the hijab to be ban

so why would a women support something which makes here oppressed and male dominated think bro its very clear

  • I support the Ban of Hijab, because it supports the opression of women, and Hijab/Burqa stuff look ugly on women as well. We are not Arabs, but Meditterneans.

Wearing modern clothes are good for a society because it will give people a more progressive mindset. Hijab = Opresssion Of The Women. Bottom Line.
