  • Yes, I remember you comment on the mosh pit. I also, as a musician have seen people act like human beings at concerts and simply dance to a beat. You cannot condemn everyone because of the bahavior of some. By your same logic, I have seen corrupt ministers destroy the lives of their parisioners. Would you like me to judge you by your standards and condemn you? No. You ministers are always very selective to use just the right examples to back your claims. Some of us see through it.

  • @ourlittlemissgi I believe the praise of God should be done in the charicter of God.God is not elvis. There is no rock and roll heaven. In an earlier post here I stated a youth outreach rock band had the effect of causing the listeners to form a mosh pit.Christian rock,in a church, mosh pit.The kids weren't hearing the lyrics. They were just responding to the beat.

  • @lifeseeker51 You cannot carry the message of rebellion by a beat or a guitar, they carry no message at all. The message has to be carried by the lyrics and there are hundreds of thousands of rock songs that have nothing to do with rebellion. How do you get rebellion against God from a song that praises him????

  • @betlamed I suppose it could be said that all music is made up of all other music.Certainly there are classical notes written into rock. Initially, the subject was whether or not rock, for instance could or should be applied to the worship of God.I say no,because of it's charictor of intentional rebellion against the will and law of God.

  • @lifeseeker51 Mhm. First it was the form, now it is the beat or cadence. So again, since the form bears a message - please do tell this captivated audience what the message of a few piano etudes by chopin is? Of course, since all music is a rather steady flow of evolution, you as a learned person are surely aware that music was invented before christianity - therefore, all music carries a pagan message, and christians shouldn't play any music at all.

  • @betlamed If rock and roll had a different beat or cadence it wouldn't be rock and roll. It's the beat that conveys the message.Which in the case of rock is, do whatever you want,no harm will come of it.Of course it's toned down somewhat when it becomes elevator music. That's why it has constantly evolved, and the message is now much more to the point than in the 50s.It's purpose though hasn't changed.

  • @lifeseeker51 Well, if you take away the words and the history - because both are not part of the form, it could have been invented anywhere - then how do you go about determining the message it contains? What message does a purely instrumental piece contain? What is the message of any arbitrary instrumental piece by Mozart?

  • @betlamed The form of music is the embodiment of the message it contains. It is designed for that purpose.Any attempt to apply, say, rock n roll to gospel music will corrupt the message. Those who do this are merely trying to achieve worldly acceptance.I was in a church for a while that employed a "Christian" rock band in an outreach program.Upon hearing the music, the kids formed a mosh pit.Which I had to break up for fear some would get hurt.

  • @lifeseeker51 How exactly do you imagine that a FORM manages to carry a moral value?

  • Something else to ponder this scripture: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
